Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Investigation along Eglinton Avenue East

What work is taking place? 

  • As preparatory work for the future at-grade stops continues, crews will be conducting SUE investigations along Eglinton Avenue East to determine the location and depth of existing utilities.
  • Working westward from Ionview Road to Victoria Park Road, crews will drill and use a vacuum truck overtop of existing utilities within the boulevard and roadway, then a surveyor will examine the utilities to obtain coordinates for design purposes.

Tunnelling for the Crosstown: What you may experience

As you know, tunnelling continues on the Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit (LRT) project as we build the underground portion of the future transit line. 

The tunnel boring machines (TBMs) operate around the clock - 24 hours a day, seven days week. On average, they each travel about 10 metres per day. Our TBMs are working about 20 metres below ground, but we do sometimes hear from nearby residents who may experience vibration from the TBMs as they pass through the area.    Read more »

Eglinton Crosstown Construction Update

Metrolinx is making progress on the Crosstown project. Construction of a launch shaft east of Brentcliffe Road is complete and assembly of two tunnel boring machines (TBMs) is nearing completion. Utility relocation and headwall construction along Eglinton Avenue East between Brentcliffe and Bayview started in January 2014.
