Bell Utility Relocations at Leaside Station

What work is taking place? 

  • To prepare for future construction of Leaside Station, crews will complete substantial utility relocations around the intersection at Eglinton Avenue East and Bayview Avenue.
  • The first stage of utility relocations includes relocation of existing underground Bell utilities.

Timing

  • Work is expected to begin as early as early October 2016, and will continue until approximately late January 2017.
  • Work is permitted between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., 7 days a week.
  • Occasional overnight work may be required – Metrolinx and CTS will notify the public in advance and monitor activities throughout.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

What to Expect

  • Temporary work zone will be set up from 595 Eglinton Ave E to Bayview Avenue.
  • Work zone will be separated from traffic by jersey barriers and from pedestrian routes by temporary fencing.
  • During certain stages of the work, metal plates may be used to facilitate traffic and pedestrian movements.
  • Residents and businesses near the construction site should anticipate noise from excavators, bobcats, and other construction equipment caused by utilities relocation activity and removal of debris.

Traffic Details

  • This work will require the closure of the curbside, eastbound lane on Eglinton Avenue East, from 595 Eglinton Avenue East to Bayview Avenue.
  • Access to the parking lot entrance for 1750 Bayview Avenue will be maintained.

Pedestrian Details

  • Pedestrians will be rerouted around work zone and will be separated from traffic using jersey barriers.
  • A minimum of 1.5 m maintained for pedestrian movements.
  • Access to businesses will be maintained.

Transit Details

  • Relocation and re-routing of bus stops is done in consultation between TTC and Metrolinx to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
  • The bus stop on the southwest corner of Eglinton Avenue East and Bayview Avenue will not be in service for the duration of this work.
  • All routes (#34, 51, 54, 56, 100, 334, 354) will stop on the southeast corner, on the far side of the intersection.
  • TTC signs will be posted for transit users.
