UPDATE: Support of Excavation Works at Leaside Station

July 19, 2017

What Work is Taking Place?

In early 2017, crews began drilling at the Main Station Entrance site as part of the support of excavation work, also known as shoring.  Drill work in the main station area has been completed. The drill machine will now be moved to the Secondary entrance site on the north west corner of Bayview Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East.

Steel piles will be installed around the perimeter of the station box and secondary entrance to support excavation.  Once steel piles are installed in each area, shallow excavation with braces and tie-backs is completed and wooden decking is installed over the excavated area followed by reinstatement of the roadway.

In order to move the drill to the secondary entrance, there will be short duration traffic disruption for approximately 15 minutes on Thursday, July 20th or Friday, July 21st for the relocation of drilling equipment from McDonald’s site to the Metro parking lot.  All other existing traffic staging will remain the same.

Timing
  • Work is expected to begin as early as Thursday, July 20th, 2017.
  • Work is permitted between the hours of 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM, 7 days a week. Crews will be working until 11:00 PM on a regular basis.
  • Occasional overnight work may be required – Metrolinx and CTS will notify the public in advance and monitor activities throughout.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
What to Expect
  • Nearby residents and businesses can expect noise in the area caused by a pile drill, crane, loaders, trucks and other construction equipment, as well as dust from drilling activity and debris removal.
  • Heavy truck traffic, entering and exiting the work zone, and traveling through nearby streets can be expected.
  • In addition to construction activity, residents can expect to see equipment and material storage within designated work zones.
  • For safety purposes, fencing will be erected around the work zone.
