Update: Geotechnical Equipment Installations and Monitoring on Thursfield Crescent for the Brentcliffe Portal and Surface Stops

November 13, 2017

What Work is Taking Place?

As part of the ongoing construction works for the future Brentcliffe Portal and Surface Stops, above ground and in-ground monitoring points will be installed on the City Right-of-Way, which may include the roadway, sidewalks and/or driveways on Thursfield Crescent.

Once installed, the instruments will remain at these locations for the length of the project. Monitoring allows crews to evaluate the impact of construction works.

Timing

  • The installations are expected to begin as early as Thursday, November 16th, and last up to two (2) weeks.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
  • Readings will occur periodically for the duration of the project.
  • Work is permitted between the hours of 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM, 7 days a week. The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.

What to Expect

  • Construction crews and equipment will be present along the roadway and sidewalk on Thursfield Crescent.
  • Each monitoring point installation process takes anywhere from one hour to up to a few days, depending on the type of installation.
  • For installations, nearby residents and businesses can expect to hear noise-related to drilling, saw-cutting, use of a vacuum truck, and the use of heavy equipment.
  • For readings, crews move from instrument to instrument and may be present at each site from 5 minutes to an hour.

Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts

  • Short duration partial lane closures are required to safely perform the installation and reading work.
  • Sidewalk access may be interrupted/closed at times. Alternative pedestrian routes will be provided.
  • If required, staff will be present to direct pedestrians.
