OVERNIGHT WORK TO PREPARE FOR WATERMAIN LINING AT AVENUE STATION SECONDARY ENTRANCE

WATERMAIN LINING OVERVIEW

  • To increase the durability of local watermains during mining operations at Avenue Station, some sections in the vicinity of station construction zone will be lined. Lining of the watermain is a minimally invasive method of repair and rehabilitation that is commonly used throughout the City of Toronto.
  • The watermain section being lined needs to be taken out of service to complete the work. A temporary water service needs to be provided to the properties connected to the watermain, so that there is access to water during the lining operations.

 OVERNIGHT PREPARATORY WORK

  • Properties on the north side of Eglinton between Avenue Road and Oriole Parkway will require connections to the temporary water service.
  • The installation of the temporary water service is planned to occur overnight (7PM – 7AM) in order to minimize the impact on businesses.
  • Overnight work will begin as early as March 2 and last approximately 2 – 3 weeks.
  • Between the Oriole Parkway and 282 Eglinton Avenue West (The Dragon), the temporary water service pipes will be installed in the rear laneway.
  • Between 284 Eglinton Avenue West (Glass Dreams) and Avenue Road, the temporary water service pipes will be installed in the sidewalk.
  • The trenches required to lay the temporary water service pipes will be plated during the day to ensure that pedestrian and business access is maintained.
  • During the overnight work periods, pedestrian access will be maintained and parking will not be available.

 

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • The overnight work to install the temporary water service may require the use of a road saw, a jack hammer, a mini-excavator, and a hydro-vacuuming truck. Crews will aim to complete the noisier activities earlier in the evening to minimize the overnight disruption to nearby residents.
  • Short water service disruptions will be required to connect and disconnect the temporary water service. This work will be performed overnight to minimize disruptions.
  • At least 48-hour advance notice will be provided for all planned water service disruptions.
  • While connected to the temporary water service, it is recommended that you temporarily disconnect any water treatment systems (i.e. softeners or filters), water-cooled air conditioners or similar plumbing fixtures.

TIMING

  • Overnight water service installation work may begin as early as March 2.
  • Overnight water service installations will take place overnight between 7PM and 7AM.
  • Work in the laneway is tentatively planned for Saturday, March 10.
  • The temporary water service installation will take approximately 2 - 3 weeks.
  • The temporary water service connection for affected properties will remain in place until the watermain lining operation is complete. 
  • Temporary water service connection and disconnection switch overs (service disruption) will be done during overnight hours, 11PM – 7AM, and will be communicated separately and in advance.

NEXT STEPS

  • Once the temporary water service is functional, work will begin to start the watermain lining operations.
  • The watermain lining operation will take approximately 4 – 6 weeks.
  • After the watermain lining is complete, work to remove the temporary service and restore the work areas will begin.
  • Removal and restoration work will take approximately 1 – 2 weeks.
