What Work is Taking Place?

The East Don River Bridge is being rehabilitated as part of the construction of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT. Works include deck replacement, reinforcement and repairs to the abutments and beams to both bridges.

Starting as early as Friday, November 30th, 2018 bridge rehabilitation works on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East will commence and take approximately six (6) months to complete. Traffic will be shifted to the north side of Eglinton Avenue East (depicted below).

All works are in support of the construction of the Crosstown and new LRT tracks and guideway (dedicated transit lane) in the center of Eglinton Avenue East.

Timing

  • Starting as early as Friday, November 30th and lasting for approximately six (6) months on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East.
  • Work may occur between the hours of 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM, seven (7) days a week.
  • The contractor may not always work during the permitted hours, but may do so at its discretion.
  • Updates on works taking place during overnight periods will be communicated separately.
  • Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

What to Expect

  • Bridge rehabilitation works require traffic on Eglinton Avenue East to be shifted to the north side of Eglinton Avenue East to allow work to proceed on the south side.
  • A generator will be onsite to facilitate site services. It may run continuously, including overnight between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. for the next six (6) months.
  • Lane closures are required to safely conduct the work.
  • A minimum of one through lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained.
  • No obstruction to TTC services.
  • Pedestrians and road users can expect delays when travelling through the work zone.
  • As always, please take care when travelling near work sites.

Traffic Impacts

  • Lane reductions will be required in each direction to safely conduct all phases of this work.
  • A minimum of one through lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained.

Pedestrian Impacts

  • The sidewalk on the south side of Eglinton Avenue East at the East Don River Bridge will be closed for the duration of the work to protect the safety of pedestrians.
  • Pedestrians crossing will be available at the Eglinton Avenue East and Credit Union intersection.
