The Eglinton Crosstown is a transit project that will provide rapid and reliable service across Eglinton Avenue. It includes an underground central section from Keele Street to Laird Drive, and will bring transit service that will be up to 60% faster than bus service today.
What: Crews will be removing steel beams or piles in conflict with the Crosstown tunnel route located on the south side of Eglinton Avenue West near Glen Cedar Road.
Why: Steel beams, or piles, previously installed in the roadway of Eglinton Avenue West as underground structural support for the rapid transit expansion program in the mid-1990’s, have to be removed to make way for the tunnels of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT project.
Where: The piles in conflict with The Crosstown tunnel route are located on the south side of Eglinton Avenue West near Glen Cedar Road.
When: Pile removal will start as early as February 2014 and is expected to last for several months. Some works may be rescheduled or adjusted due to weather condition and unforeseen circumstances. Construction noise and some vibration can be expected.
The work zone will be located in the roadway on the south side of Eglinton Avenue West from west of Menin Road to just east of Glen Cedar Road. Traffic will be diverted to the north side of Eglinton Avenue West allowing one lane in each direction. Glen Cedar Road and Menin Road will remain open.
Access to Green P parking lot from Eglinton Avenue West will be temporarily closed while piles are removed. Green P lot will be accessible from Glen Cedar Rd. only, to enter and exit the parking lot.
TTC bus stops at the corner of Eglinton Avenue West and Glen Cedar Road will be relocated for safety of the transit riders. Please watch for posted signs indicating the new locations.
Pedestrian access will be maintained. Please take extra care while travelling near construction areas.
The hours of work permitted for this contract are between 7a.m. and 11p.m. Work is expected to take place Monday through Friday. The contractor will not always work during the extended hours, but may do so at its discretion.
